This is my Paul Johnson, “shoot it straight” post game review.
#1: The Defense Stinks! With all due respect to Dave Wommack, it was like watching the offense of the Pittsburgh Steelers line up against the defense of Southern Miss. These guys were not even close to being ready and that falls on Johnson for possibly not caring enough about defense and Wommack for not preparing the guys to play. We are not playing Academy and Conference USA football anymore, big boys with big bucks to spend on coaching are in this league, you better wake up before its too late and coach your butts off. The declining trend on DEFENSE the last six games is far more concerning at this point than the lack of offensive touchdowns. Find a solution. Tech’s D was out of position more than it was in position. They can’t make plays when they are not in position to make one. That’s square on the coaching, own it and now get better.
#2: The Team Attitude Stinks! These guys looked defeated when it was still 17-3 and Tech drove for touchdown to be called back on a block in the back. That Roddy Jones touchdown makes it 17-10 before half and whole new ballgame, but the reality was that Tech had already lost. They were intimidated by the little “uâ€, it was as if Tech bought into the hype even more than the “u†fan base. Wake up girls, you don’t show up and expect your ranking to win you anything, you should know better than that. The only excuse for playing tired in the first half is that you were scared before you walked on the field. We need a serious injection of manhood. Stop reading the paper, stop listening to everyone else, walk into games with a chip on your shoulder and an attitude that says, “Yes we are proud to be Jackets, we are proud of what we represent, proud of what offense we run, and we are about to punish you with this total package attack!†Guys, all of you still haven’t totally bought in to P.J.; otherwise you wouldn’t quite on him in the first half down by only 2 touchdowns. It’s past time to play like you got something to prove, because you still do. In the words of P.J. “you’ve done nothing yet!â€
#3: What’s taking so long to learn the offense? I might trade our offense for Navy, right now. Go watch them run this thing, you can’t hardly tell who has the ball it is so fast, and these guys are not the top recruits on many boards. But evidently they have the discipline and the drive to learn and perfect this offensive system. If we could run this offense at their speed combined with Tech’s supposed talent, there is no excuse for what we are seeing right now, which is the lack of offensive touchdowns and general anemia at certain points. Sometimes it looks like we are starting the option in sand, we stutter, trip, and still don’t seem to know who to block.
Wake up girls! “Are you that stupid?â€
