Georgia Tech Football Play of the Season

In this slow bye week, I needed to get my fix of GT football as I am feeling deprived already knowing that we don’t have a game this weekend.  So I sit here at work, dreaming about many long runs and multiple sacks on the Bullpuppies next weekend and find myself looking back on this magical season.  I am trying to determine what one play has defined our season and gotten us into the ACC Championship game.  Here are a few of the plays that come to mind for me:

1.  Paul Johnson out coaching Dabo Swinney and putting Jerrard Tarrant back to receive a punt on a fake field goal.  As we all know Tarrant took it to the house.

2.  After a bad pitch and fumble,  Josh Nesbitt strips the ball back from an FSU defensive player, making up for his mistake.  He scored the game winning TD a couple of plays later.

3.  Josh Nesbitt running 39 yards for the game winning TD against VT.  I guess Cam Chancellor just could not make any plays since he is a girl and can’t avoid blockers.

4.  Paul Johnson going for it on 4th down, losing by 3 points in OT to Wake Forest.  Of course, GT scored the game winning TD the next play and kept our championship dreams alive.

Did I miss any other big plays?  What is your play of the year?

  1. that’s a real good set of four, but i’d change the order. from what you have now: 2, 4, 3, 1. that’s my 2 cents.

  2. RLH says:

I’ll nitpick and argue that #4 is not a play but rather a coaching decision.

#2 is clearly the play of the season for Tech. And likely the entire ACC.

  3. I should have said that the four plays I mentioned are in no particular order, they are actually in order of when they happened during the season. I agree the FSU play is the play of the season.

  4. Taylor says:

#2 is the play of the year. I can’t think of any other time I’ve ever seen a QB rip the ball away from a linebacker after a fumble.

As announced on Monday Night Football, via Blatant Homerism: He must be a senior, because you need time and maturity to develop into a good professional quarterback.
