Bobby Bowden’s ride may have found its stop

Where he’ll stop, nobody knows.

My usual mornings consist of a bus ride from my apartment to school (University of Southern California). Last week I noticed this man sitting across from me. A man wearing a garnet colored outfit. A man looking an awful lot like coach Bobby Bowden. Bowden of course is the legendary coach who has coached at Florida State for like ever.

I wondered to myself, why would coach Bowden be in my neighborhood, headed to my school and taking a Metro bus? Then it hit me. Maybe this is the best way to fly under the radar and apply for a coaching job under Pete Carroll and the Trojans football squad.

I can’t say I blame him. After all, the board of trustees apparently want him to be sent packing. The question is, do they really want an unproven Jimbo Fischer to take the helm so soon after being named the heir apparent?

One thing is for certain, on Saturday, Bowden may be facing a death nail. Once upon a time, his Seminoles were 12-0 against the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech. That is until that glorious day when the Jackets finally beat the Noles on a goal line fumble on Saturday, November 1 in Atlanta. I remember it well, because it was the same day I found out I was accepted to USC.

Here we are, almost a year later, come full circle.

The Jackets have never won in Tallahassee. This game will shape Tech’s season, and be a potential pink slip/retirement for Bowden. After all, the one thing people hate more than anything else is change. Tech over FSU in Tallahassee is change for the better.

Not so much for the man on the bus wondering if his next stop is the retirement home.
